About

Subrata was born and brought up in Kolkata, India. He graduated from Presidency College (affiliated to University of Calcutta) with Bachelor's degree in Chemistry (Honours) before obtaining a Master's degree in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) in 2015. During this time, he completed a summer internship in the laboratory of Dr. Dulal Senapati (Associate professor, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata) where he received foundational research exposure to functional material and their biomedical applications. This research experience proved to be a transformative one for him as he set his sights on a research career in India. In 2015, he joined the Ph.D. program in IIT Guwahati with Prof. Parameswar K. Iyer to work on the biophysical aspects of Alzheimer's Disease (AD). In this time, he investigated some major biochemical events that trigger onset Alzheimer's Disease. He also developed some novel biocompatible materials having promising anti-Alzheimer activities. A deep interest in AD prompted him to won Commonwealth Scholarship and moved to Prof. Michele Vendruscolo's laboratory at the University of Cambridge. Currently, he is working with Prof. Vendruscolo on the liquid-liquid phase separation(LLPS) of Tau protein associated with AD and other tauopathies.
