Dr. Subrata Mondal

I study how misfolded proteins aggregate at cell membranes and damage them, and I develop molecules and devices to detect and counter these processes in Alzheimer's disease and related proteinopathies.

Introduction

About me

My academic foundation began in Kolkata, India, where I earned a B.Sc. in Chemistry (Honours) at Presidency College before completing an M.Sc. and Ph.D. (2015–2021) at IIT Guwahati. Working under Prof. Parameswar K. Iyer, my doctoral research unraveled molecular triggers of Alzheimer’s pathogenesis and evaluated functional biocompatible scaffolds designed to halt disease-associated aggregation.

To expand my expertise in quantitative biophysics, I secured a Commonwealth Scholarship to conduct research in the University of Cambridge, followed by postdoctoral training at Queen Mary University of London. In 2024, I was awarded a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship at Dublin City University, where I am investigating protein misfolding at membrane interfaces by leveraging model membrane systems and supported lipid bilayers.
